We spoke with officials from asthma and allergy groups who shared their concerns about the safety of Primatene and the new formula.

Asthma Inhalers Should Be Cheap. Here’s Why They Aren’t

“Experts in the field feel strongly that this is not an appropriate treatment for asthma patients and that it should not return to the OTC market,” said Tonya Winders, president and CEO of the Allergy & Asthma Network.

“Asthma is not an appropriate disease for an OTC environment,” Winders added. “It’s not a do-it-yourself disease.”

Some in the asthma and allergy community consider the safety concerns so serious that they issued a joint statement urging patients to avoid primate mist.

Asthma experts say increased access to over-the-counter options makes people less likely to report their symptoms to their health care team, which can have life-threatening consequences.

My New Inhaler Is Stupid. It Does Not Have A Counter It Is Three Times The Size Of My Previous Inhaler And On Top Of That It Does Not Fit In My

They say 22 million people in the United States have this chronic disease and it should be addressed quickly when it recurs.

They say 10 people die from the disease every day, and those deaths are evenly split among patients with mild, moderate, and severe asthma.

“We know that lack of control and overuse of fast-acting drugs is the number one reason 10 people die from asthma every day,” says Winders. “This newly approved product is used to mask asthma symptoms without addressing the underlying cause. Access to appropriate care is likely to be delayed and the doctor-patient relationship may be compromised.”

Kenneth Mendes, president and CEO of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, shared similar sentiments in a public statement.

“As with any medication or chronic illness, it’s important to talk to your doctor to see if a medication is right for you.”

Primatene Mist was taken off the shelves in 2011 due to environmental regulations established by the 1987 Montreal Protocol.

FDA officials said the approval of Primaten Mist is part of the agency’s efforts to increase the number of over-the-counter (OTC) products.

“One of our ongoing priorities is to ensure that consumers have access to medicines that help them stay healthy,” the statement read. “Part of this access includes the availability of safe and effective over-the-counter (OTC) medications that help empower consumers to cope with medical conditions.”

They note that there was opposition from some consumers when Primatene Mist was pulled from store shelves in 2011.

“When Primatene Mist disappeared from the market during the phase-out of CFCs, many people objected to discontinuing the product, including mild asthmatics who had used the product successfully,” the FDA statement said. “There was also concern for underserved people who had no other access to asthma treatment.”

FDA officials said last week’s approval of Primatene Mist came after an extensive review of benefits and risks.

At the same time, FDA officials reiterated some of the Asthma Group’s warnings and urged consumers to understand the product’s limitations.

“Primatene Mist is not a substitute for prescription asthma medications,” an FDA official said. “As with any drug use, patients should discuss treatment options with their doctor.”

Officials at Amphastar, the maker of Primatene Mist, said their product will bring welcome relief to many of the 22 million people who suffer from asthma in the United States.

Amphastar CEO Dr. Jack Zhang said in a statement:

Can You Overuse Your Blue Asthma Puffer?

Amphastar’s Primatene Mist website describes the product as “temporarily relieving mild symptoms of intermittent asthma,” using capital letters for emphasis.

“Asthma is life-threatening,” he adds, so anyone experiencing severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention.

Major stakeholders in the asthma awareness and advocacy community do not recommend the use of primatene mist for patients with asthma.

One is that the main ingredient in the inhalers, known as racemic epinephrine, is not an approved treatment for asthma.

Traveling With Asthma

Another reason is that Primaten mist masks the symptoms of asthma, so sick people do not give their doctors full information about their condition. All opinions are 100% my own.

This time of year can be difficult for those who are prone to colds and allergies, especially those who suffer from asthma. I have been very sick for the past few weeks. At the time of writing this post I am still in the terminal stages of a very stubborn respiratory infection, but I feel better than I did a few weeks or days ago. I have asthma I’m used to respiratory infections, but I’ll never get used to the part where I have trouble breathing. It’s a personal thing, and to be honest, I try not to complain when it comes to health or anything else.

When my respiratory infection was at its worst, I received an email with an opportunity to write about Primatene® MIST. seemed like it was meant to be This OTC inhaler really helped me get out of an asthma block. I have purchased Primatene® MIST in the past and have had several prescriptions for maintenance inhalers, albuterol nebulizer bottles, and rescue inhalers. My out of pocket costs for these prescriptions are exorbitant, and if I run into problems before the prescription is filled again…too bad.

I need to be able to breathe and in the past this product has helped me a lot when I needed it. I haven’t known about over the counter asthma inhalers for a while but I know I’m not alone.

My first purchase of Primatene® MIST was for a short business trip. I left my rescue inhaler at home. It was winter and my lungs were struggling to adjust to the cold New York temperatures. Luckily there was a pharmacy not far from my hotel. But when I got there, I found out it was too early for the insurance company to cover the prescription. Fortunately, my pharmacist recommended trying Primatene® MIST, which got me through the rest of the trip.

I wish I could say that was the only time I left the house without my rescue inhaler. I tend to forget things when I’m in a hurry, and I’m always in a hurry. If you have asthma, not carrying a rescue inhaler can put you at great risk. Since I discovered that I can buy Primatene® MIST over the counter, I haven’t had to worry too much.

Primatene® MIST is the only FDA-approved over-the-counter asthma inhaler (no prescription required). Relieve wheezing, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, open the airways to get your breath back quickly and start feeling relief. A trusted product for over 50 years.

Inhaled Asthma Drug Shortens Covid Recovery And Could Be ‘significant For World,’ Study Finds

Breathing is something many people take for granted. It’s something you just do without thinking…breathing in…breathing out. But if you’ve ever had asthma or another lung disease, think a lot about your breathing.

I get so frustrated that sometimes I get asthma. I hate being tied to an inhaler or nebulizer. I am a very active person. I am also a very determined person. In other words, asthma doesn’t stop you from doing what you want to do. If you don’t have access to my prescription rescue inhaler, it’s good to know there are over-the-counter options.
