List Of Most Dangerous Cities In The United States – President Donald Trump is blaming Democratic mayors for unrest in American cities as he tries to make law and order a central part of his re-election campaign.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that the 10 most dangerous cities in the United States are all run by Democrats.

We asked the White House press office what the president’s data source was for his claim, and it led us to a Washington Post fact-check article on urban crime.

That article uses crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the first half of 2019, the most recent source of official data on US cities with more than 100,000 residents.

The top 10 cities for violent crime overall, which include major urban areas New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are all run by Democrats.

The Republican-led city with the highest number of violent crimes is Jacksonville, Florida, which ranks 17th on the FBI’s list.

What The Public Thinks

As of September 2020, the 100 largest cities in the United States are run by 64 Democrats, 28 Republicans, three independents, and four nonpartisans.

But the FBI cautioned against using its statistics in a way that categorizes cities and oversimplifies what causes crime.

“These approximate rankings do not provide insight into the many variables that shape crime in a given city, town, county, state, tribal area or region,” it says on its website.

“Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyzes that often create misleading perceptions that negatively impact communities and their neighbors.”

Trump also said that Democratic-led cities “are crime-free,” but some of the fastest increases in murder rates are in Republican-led cities.

Data from local police departments show sharp increases in Democrat-run Chicago and New York. But that’s also a trend seen in some Republican-led metro areas.

Lexington, Kentucky, a city of more than 300,000, saw an 84.6% increase in murders compared to the same period in 2019, for example.

Here’s the change in % homicides for cities with a Republican mayor (and available data). Murders are up 26% in these cities over the past year, which is identical to the change in all major cities. “Homicides are up 25% nationally, including almost identical changes in Democratic and Republican-led cities,” says US crime analyst Jeff Asher.

“I think the bigger point is that cities across the country, regardless of the mayor’s party, are seeing an alarming increase in homicides nationally this year,” he added.

Individual years may vary, but violent crime in the United States has been on a downward trend since the 1990s, with homicides up 22% from the previous year, according to FBI crime data. Unfortunately, that trend continued in 2022, as major cities saw an additional 5% increase in homicides, according to a report from the Criminal Justice Council.
