The Best Dell Laptop For Students – Dell XPS 15 Review (2022): Still the best 15-inch Windows laptop CPU Intel 12th has taken it to new heights.
How can Dell improve the already excellent XPS 15? Adding the latest Intel hardware, whose new hybrid chips promise much better multitasking performance than before. We loved the XPS 15’s updated design when it debuted two years ago, and last year Dell added an OLED screen option, leading us to call it “practically perfect” in our review. We’re out of superlatives at this point. However, it’s worth noting that the XPS 15 is still the 15-inch notebook that every PC company wants to make.
The Best Dell Laptop For Students
A big reason for this is the recent redesign of the XPS 15, which significantly reduces the bezels and gives the entire computer a more modern look. You can practically date laptops by the thickness of their ugly display bezels. Although I’ve seen it in various forms over the last few years, I still love the way the screen just flows into the area below the keyboard. And while it sounds like a cliché, those razor-thin bezels really do make the screen look like it’s floating.

Every other aspect of the XPS 15’s case feels perfect, too, from the aluminum exterior to the smooth carbon fiber around the keyboard. I’m sure Dell will eventually give us an XPS 15 Plus that takes design cues from the new XPS 13 Plus, but the standard model still has a level of polish that surpasses most Windows laptops.
The big selling point of this year’s XPS 15 is the new 12th generation Intel hybrid processor. Thanks to the combination of high performance and an efficient core, they are more capable than last year when it comes to juggling a wide range of tasks. And low-power cores are good for saving battery life. Coupled with NVIDIA’s 45-watt RTX 3050 Ti GPU (which was also in the model we reviewed last year), the XPS 15 is now an even more of a powerhouse.
Our review machine, equipped with a Core i7-12700H, 16GB of RAM, and that NVIDIA GPU, scored 17 percent higher than last year’s model in the PCMark 10 benchmark and 40 percent faster in the Cinebench multithreading test. In the real world, these numbers mean the XPS 15 can save you hours when it comes to editing large video files or rendering 3D projects. The new CPU also gave the XPS 15 a slight edge in some demanding games, such as
. I hit a solid 60fps when gaming at 1080p on medium settings, while the newer XPS 15 struggled with complex shooters using the same GPU. (This was good for a low-impact game, eg

The XPS 15’s 3.5K OLED display is still a notch higher with excellent color reproduction, black levels and all the expected bonuses. Still, I’d like to see Dell push this display further, especially after both Apple and Microsoft pushed high-refresh-rate screens into competing notebooks. Build a little bonus list as you scroll through the sites (and take on the occasional Spartan enemy).
Everything else we loved about last year’s XPS 15 remains intact. The keyboard is comfortable and responsive, the trackpad is plush and large, and the four-speaker system sounds great. The XPS 15 also has most of the ports you need for serious work. It includes three USB-C ports (two of which support Thunderbolt 4), an SD card reader, and a headphone jack. A USB-C to HDMI and USB Type-A adapter is included, but you’ll still need additional dongles (or a USB-C mini-hub) if you want Ethernet and more Type-A ports.
I’m glad Dell stuck with the SD card slot, which will make downloading photos and videos easier. It’s also nice to see the XPS 15 make some battery life improvements. It lasted 13 hours and 12 minutes on our benchmark, which is a big improvement over last year’s sub-10 hours.
Despite my progress, there is still room for improvement. While the keyboard, trackpad, and palm rest feel great, they also look a little raw after a little use. I’d like to see some kind of oleophobic coating that doesn’t require a lot of wiping. And of course, more useful ports wouldn’t hurt either.
Best Student Laptop Deals 2021: From Macbooks To Surface Laptops
The XPS 15 starts at $1,449 with a Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM, but as usual, we’d recommend bumping those features up a bit. You’ll need at least 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a Core i7 CPU to make this computer last for years. Our review unit came in at $2,253, a relatively modest price for the hardware you get. However, I’d spend a little more to squeeze in a bigger SSD and possibly more RAM, especially if you’re constantly juggling large files.
Right now, the XPS 15 is the closest Dell has come to delivering a near-perfect workhorse machine. Its beautiful exterior hides plenty of power for serious work, but it can also handle games when downtime is needed. Plus, it’s got all the features we’d want in a modern laptop, especially when you opt for that gorgeous OLED display. Like Apple, Dell proves that good design can last for years.

Dell Xps 15 (9520) And Xps 17 (9720) Review: Premium Laptop Legacy
The Dell XPS 13 is an all-time favorite for its size, weight, performance, and just plain good looks. In 2020, Dell made the laptop even smaller while making the laptop screen bigger and increasing performance for both processor and graphics intensive tasks. For 2022, it made the XPS 13 even smaller and lighter, keeping its starting price below $999, even as the latest 12th Gen Intel processors drop.
While we haven’t had a chance to test the new model yet, we expect it to be a strong Windows alternative to the M1 MacBook Air. Plus, if you’re looking to save some money, the XPS 13 2021 with 11th Gen Intel chips is available for less right now.
Dell’s Inspiron casual laptops are closer in design and performance to the premium XPS models than before. Its Inspiron 14 2-in-1 starts at $650, but still has extras like a full HD webcam with a privacy shutter, a fingerprint reader for secure registration, an HDMI 1.4 output, and the size of an SD card slot. It even has an aluminum exterior for a more polished look.
The Inspiron 16 Plus’s 16-inch display is perfect because the laptop is barely bigger than the 15.6-inch model, but you have more room to work with the larger keyboard and trackpad. Dell offers the performance parts for this Inspiron, including discrete Nvidia RTX graphics (though it’s almost half the price if you go with integrated Intel graphics), and the display covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, which is good enough to get you started. With. create web content. Additionally, the laptop has a better fit and finish than we’re used to seeing in the Inspiron line.
