If you’re new to booking travel with points and miles, you should know that flexible rewards like Chase Ultimate Rewards points are great because you have so many options for using them. According to Insider points and miles value, Chase points are worth an average of 1.8 cents each when transferred to airline and hotel partners.

Transferable points are especially important because points cannot be transferred or redeemed in a different program, such as Southwest Express Rewards. Of course, there is a little more to this. However, bank points, like those earned with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, offer more flexibility, which naturally makes them more valuable.
For example, let’s say I earn 80,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points with a Southwest credit card. I can find some great deals that make those price points worth a little more cash. However, if I decide to keep a few credit cards in my portfolio, those points can come with a relatively high probability.
In contrast, let’s say I earn 80,000 points using the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. If I want to fly on a route operated by Southwest that costs 15,000 instant rewards points, I can transfer my points from Chase to Southwest to cover the cost. Now, I have 65,000 points left to spend as I like. I can use my remaining points for various airline or hotel travel plans or reservations, depending on where my trip takes me – or for non-travel redemptions.
