My wife and I made new friends at a backyard Neighborhood Meeting last week. We’ll call them “Jack” and “Jill”. (After all, we want to protect the innocent. 🙂 )

Which Credit Card Is Right For Me

Which Credit Card Is Right For Me

Jack asked me a question I often hear in radio interviews, emails, text messages, meetings and meetings, and casual conversations:

How To Get Free Flights: The Best Credit Cards For Miles

But this question is quite difficult to answer because (as I always say) everyone’s budget, spending habits, travel goals and travel needs are different.

For example, I’m a Toyota Highlander guy: it fits my family’s needs and our budget well. Plus, I’m the height of a cartoon football player. So it is very convenient for me. But someone else might say the Porsche 911 or BMW Z4 is better. If they’re interested in sports cars and don’t need to carry the family (and all the strollers, bags, and everything that comes with it), these cars are better for them. None of us are wrong. It’s all subjective.

First, he admitted that he sometimes uses a debit card for certain purchases. (He grimaced and said “I know, I know!”). But it does pay for Chase Freedom Unlimited® from time to time.

Jill wants something with bonus points categories. That she and Jack aren’t necessarily loyal to an airline or hotel chain. So co-branded airline or hotel cards won’t really benefit them. As long as the card has good earning potential and some good perks, it doesn’t care about the not-so-excessive annual fees.

Visa Or Mastercard—what’s The Difference, Anyway?

The American Express® Gold Card fits their needs perfectly. They have a very sweet two-year-old daughter. And another baby is on the way. Thus, only the need for grocery shopping and food and beverage will increase.

The American Express® Gold Card earns you 4x Membership Rewards points for purchases you make at US supermarkets (up to $25,000 per purchase per calendar year) and restaurants (including food delivery services). Additionally, cardholders are eligible for $10 monthly meal credits at select restaurants and food delivery services (one-time registration required). Not to mention that Amex Gold Cards now receive $10 monthly Uber Cash deposits (registration required). They can be used for Uber Eats deliveries.

Although the card has an annual fee of $250, they can easily recoup that amount between monthly statement credits and points earned. (See Prices and Fees.)

By the way, I have long advised people to keep the Chase Freedom Flexâ„ . Quarterly 5% cashback categories are reason enough to have this card. Benefit is up to $1,500 on combined purchases per quarter. Therefore, the highest repayment amount per quarter is 75/7,500 Ultimate Rewards Points (or 300/30,000 Ultimate Rewards Points per year). Not bad for a card with no annual fee.

Also, Flex pairs nicely with Unlimited. He can combine Ultimate Rewards points on his cards and exchange them for cashback, travel, gift cards or a few other options.

Everyone’s financial and travel situation is different. “Which is the best credit card?” decide the question. It is not as easy as we would like. But I think I’m pointing Jack and Jill in the right direction.

Despite all the bad credit cards earned over the years, many of my friends still wonder why I use credit cards. The main reason is that they provide much more benefits than regular credit cards if you know how to manage your finances.

Many credit cards offer rewards for every purchase. You can get some of your money back in cash back or points/miles using credit cards. These can be used to make up for your next purchase and save you some hard-earned money.
